Addiction Recovery & Transformation

To help people overcome addiction through counselling, prayer, and discipleship.

At a glance

The work at a glance.

Alcohol, marijuana and tobacco quietly destroy health, marriages and livelihoods in many of the communities we serve. Our recovery work combines proven, Bible-based programmes — GROW FREE for alcohol and drugs, BREATHE FREE for tobacco — with counselling, prayer and the support of a local church.

People are not only helped to stop. They are welcomed into a new life.

What this includes

  • GROW FREE recovery groups and BREATHE FREE stop-smoking support.
  • Christ-centred counselling, prayer and mutual support.
  • Care for spouses and children affected by addiction.
  • Pathways from recovery into discipleship and church life.
Who we serve
Men, women and young people struggling with alcohol, drugs and tobacco — and the families who carry the cost.

People freed from alcohol, marijuana and tobacco dependence; marriages and families restored; recovery groups meeting in churches and prisons.

Why it matters

Addiction is breaking families.

In Zambia, nearly one in four men reports heavy drinking in a single month, and around one in five men uses tobacco. Behind the numbers are wages spent on alcohol, marriages under strain and young people losing years to drugs.

Professional treatment is out of reach for most rural families. Church-based recovery groups, led by trained local leaders, bring help to where people live.

Addiction Recovery

From losing hope to finding freedom

Emmanuel struggled with alcohol and tobacco and was beginning to lose hope. Through Breathe Free, Grow Free and Trauma Healing lessons, he encountered the message of God’s love and healing. He accepted Jesus Christ, stopped drinking and smoking, was baptized, and joined the Baptist Church. Today, Emmanuel describes himself as free and committed to following Christ.

Addiction Recovery

A fresh start

Mary struggled with alcohol addiction and felt that her life lacked peace. Through Breathe Free and Trauma Healing lessons, she learned about God’s ability to heal broken hearts and restore lives. She surrendered her life to Jesus and found strength to overcome alcohol. Today, she describes herself as a new person in Christ, and after being baptized she joined the Baptist Church.

Addiction Recovery

From emptiness to a Christ-centred life

Richard was trapped in smoking and alcohol abuse and felt empty and discouraged. Through Breathe Free, Grow Free and Trauma Healing lessons, he encountered God’s love and forgiveness and the value of a healthy, Christ-centred life. He stopped smoking and drinking, was baptized and joined the Baptist Church. Today, Richard is grateful for the transformation he has experienced.

Addiction Recovery

Finding purpose again

Before attending the programme, Lameck struggled with alcohol and lived without direction. Through Breathe Free and Trauma Healing, he learned that God can heal emotional wounds and give new purpose. He chose to follow Christ and quit alcohol completely. Today, his life is marked by peace, hope and fellowship with other believers, and after his baptism he joined the Baptist Church.

Addiction Recovery

Freedom after years of addiction

James spent years trapped in addiction and shame. Through recovery ministry, prayer, and accountable community he found lasting freedom and now helps others take the same path.

Addiction Recovery

He thought he could never stop smoking

Nicotine controlled Robert’s life for years and he believed he could never quit. Through BREATHE FREE, prayer and support from church leaders he stopped completely. Today he enjoys better health and encourages others who struggle with addiction.

Addiction Recovery

Breathing easier

Timo and Phacksani both wanted to quit tobacco for years but could not do it alone. BREATHE FREE gave them practical steps, prayer support and biblical encouragement — and both are now completely free.

“Nicotine addiction controlled my life for years. Through prayer and support from church leaders, I completely stopped smoking. Today I spend my time encouraging others who struggle with addiction.”

Questions

Common questions about addiction recovery.

What kinds of addiction do you help with?

Mainly alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and nicotine — the struggles we see most in the communities we serve. We also walk with people whose substance use is tied to trauma or grief.

What are GROW FREE and BREATHE FREE?

GROW FREE is a six-month, Bible-story-based recovery group that meets weekly. BREATHE FREE is a practical stop-smoking programme that combines health education with prayer and support. Both are led by trained local leaders.

Do I have to be a Christian to join?

No. Groups are open to anyone who wants help. We are open about our faith, and many participants find their freedom deepens as they come to know Jesus.

Is there help for families?

Yes. Spouses and children are welcome, and our counsellors and group leaders support families through the recovery journey.

Is this a residential rehab?

No. People stay at home and in their communities and meet weekly in churches, homes and prisons. That keeps recovery rooted in everyday life.
