Discipleship & Leadership Development

To make disciples and equip leaders through biblical teaching and mentorship.

At a glance

The work at a glance.

Discipleship is the heart of everything Purpose Life does. A decision for Christ is a beginning, not an ending — so we walk with new believers until they are rooted in God’s Word, obedient to Jesus and ready to lead others.

Through simple, reproducible tools, Bible school and personal mentoring, ordinary men and women become disciple-makers and village pastors — including former inmates who met Jesus in prison.

What this includes

  • Simple, reproducible discipleship: Discovery Bible Study, 3/3rds groups and the Commands of Christ.
  • Bible school, mentoring and pastoral coaching for young and newly called pastors.
  • A leadership pathway from first steps of faith to leading others.
  • Ongoing follow-up for leaders released from prison and serving in their villages.

Why it matters

New churches need rooted leaders.

Across rural Zambia, churches are multiplying faster than leaders can be trained. Many congregations meet under trees or in homes, led by believers who have never had formal training. Without discipleship, new faith stays shallow; with it, a village church can stand for a generation.

Most families in Eastern Province live far from Bible colleges and training centres — so we take the training to them.

Questions

Common questions about discipleship and training.

Who can join a discipleship group?

Anyone. Groups meet in homes, churches and prisons, and are open to new believers and to people still exploring who Jesus is.

Do I need to be able to read?

No. Many groups use oral Bible storytelling, so people who cannot read learn, retell and obey the Scriptures alongside everyone else.

How are pastors trained?

Through Bible school sessions, mentoring with an experienced pastor and hands-on ministry in a local church. Training continues after a pastor is sent out.

What happens after someone comes to faith in prison?

We keep discipling them after release, connect them with a local church and — where God calls them — train them to lead. Fourteen former inmates now pastor village churches.

Can my church partner in leadership training?

Yes. Partner churches sponsor training, send trainers and pray for specific leaders. Get in touch through the partner page.
