For many years, Peter struggled with addiction to marijuana and alcohol. Gradually, the habits reached into the most important areas of his life — his family, his health and his walk with God.
It was never only about substances. Peter describes a season in which addiction was wearing down his relationships, his wellbeing and his relationship with God.
Finding a different path
Peter eventually began attending Grow Free and Trauma Healing sessions. There he was introduced to teaching that helped him confront the deeper issues beneath his addiction.
“I discovered that true freedom comes through Jesus Christ.”
That discovery became his turning point. Rather than continuing to live under the control of marijuana and alcohol, Peter found the courage to leave them behind.
Leaving addiction behind
Peter says he experienced healing in his heart and gained the courage to stop using drugs. Today, he has completely stopped using marijuana and alcohol.
For Peter, this change is inseparable from his faith. His recovery went hand in hand with a decision to follow Christ and become part of a Christian community.
A new identity and community
Peter was baptized and is now part of the Baptist Church family. His journey did not end when he stopped using — baptism and belonging to a church became part of his new life and identity.
Where addiction once affected his family, health and spiritual life, Peter now describes himself as someone who has found freedom through his relationship with Christ.
The journey continues
Grow Free and Trauma Healing played a key part in Peter’s journey from addiction toward a new way of life. Having left marijuana and alcohol behind and found a church family, he closes his testimony with a simple expression of praise.
“To God be the glory.”
